New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to convey the Opposition's concerns to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding its demand for his presence in the House and a statement on the alleged police action against protesting students.

The development came during the Question Hour, when Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue and sought a statement from the Home Minister. The proceedings witnessed repeated interruptions and sloganeering by Opposition members.

Amid the heated exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches, Chairman Radhakrishnan intervened and requested Rijiju to "echo the sentiments" expressed by the Opposition to the Home Minister and consider their demand.

Kharge argued that the Opposition was raising "genuine concerns" and questioned why the government was not responding to their request for a statement from Amit Shah. Rijiju, however, maintained that the issue had already been raised repeatedly and that the House should proceed according to its rules.

The demand for the Home Minister's presence continued throughout the day, resulting in multiple disruptions in the Rajya Sabha. Proceedings during Question Hour and Zero Hour were affected, leading to several adjournments.

When the House reconvened later to take up the Appropriation Bill (No. 3), Opposition members again pressed for Amit Shah's statement, causing further interruptions before the scheduled business could continue.

The government has not yet indicated whether the Home Minister will make a statement on the matter in Parliament.
