Nagpur: In a proactive step to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season, officials from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Central Railway conducted a joint inspection of major drains and railway-linked water channels in the city on Thursday.

The inspection was led by Central Railway Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vinayak Garg and Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin. During the visit, the officials inspected the Shakti Nala and several drainage channels passing beneath railway tracks to assess their current condition before the onset of heavy rains.

The team reviewed drainage systems near the Central Railway office, the main railway station, and the Nai Basti area. Officials noted that overflowing drains during monsoon often lead to severe waterlogging in nearby residential localities, causing inconvenience and hardship to residents. Water accumulation around railway offices and station premises also disrupts passenger movement and railway operations.

To address the issue permanently, both civic and railway authorities decided to work in close coordination. The railway administration will undertake complete cleaning of drains flowing beneath railway tracks and provide the necessary machinery for the operation. The municipal corporation will extend full support to ensure timely completion of the work.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin also instructed officials to expedite the cleaning of Shakti Nala to avoid flooding risks during heavy rainfall.

Residents from areas including Motibagh, Sadichha Colony, and Santra Market had previously raised complaints regarding drainage-related problems and recurring waterlogging. The joint inspection was organized in response to these concerns.

The inspection was attended by local corporator Vivek Nikose, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat, Executive Engineer Sunil Uike, Solid Waste Management Director Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, along with senior officials and staff from both departments.
