Nagpur: In a move aimed at tackling the city's ongoing traffic challenges, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak has been appointed to lead Nagpur's Traffic Branch. Formerly with the Economic Offence Wing (EOW), DCP Chandak’s new role comes under the orders of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singal, issued on Wednesday evening.
DCP Shashikant Satav, who previously headed the Traffic Branch, has been transferred to the EOW. In another key reshuffle, Lohit Matani, recently transferred to Nagpur, has taken charge of Zone 1.
Nagpur's traffic system has long been a source of frustration for both the public and Traffic Branch officers, with limited improvement despite multiple initiatives. This situation has impacted the police force's reputation, leading Police Commissioner Dr. Singal to issue several directives aimed at rectifying the issue. However, significant results remained elusive.
During the winter session, Chandak, while holding additional responsibility for the Traffic Branch, implemented several measures that resulted in notable progress. His success during that period has led to his appointment as the full-time head of the Traffic Branch, where he is expected to bring further improvements.
Meanwhile, Zone 1, a crucial area in light of the upcoming elections, has been entrusted to Matani. Having previously served in Zone 1 before his transfer to Bhandara, Matani is considered well-suited to handle the responsibilities of this key area.
