Nagpur: A 49-year-old homemaker from Itwari was allegedly cheated of ₹50,000 by three men who promised to secure her son’s admission to Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune, for a Computer Science engineering course.

According to the complaint registered at Tahsil Police Station, the woman, identified as Tripti Venkatesh Bhagat, lives near the City Post Office, behind Lakadganj Police Chowki in Itwari.

Bhagat’s son Vedant had passed Class 12 in 2024 and wanted to pursue engineering in Pune. He was seeking admission to the Computer Science course at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology.

Police said the accused — Himanshu Kumar Shaha, Nihal Ahmed and Adnan Sohel, all associated with Kantalist Education Consultancy at a commercial shop near Wakad-Hinjewadi Bridge in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune — allegedly contacted Bhagat over the phone and assured her that they would arrange her son’s admission to the institute.

Trusting their assurance, Bhagat allegedly paid ₹50,000 to the accused. However, the admission was not secured and the accused allegedly failed to return the money despite repeated requests.

Based on Bhagat’s complaint, Tahsil Police registered a case of fraud against the three accused.
