Nagpur: A potentially dangerous situation was averted in Nagpur after a well-known wildlife rescuer safely rescued a venomous Indian Spectacled Cobra spotted near a residential area, helping protect a local family and nearby residents.
The incident took place near Katol Naka Chowk in Nagpur, where members of a family suddenly noticed a snake moving through a narrow lane behind their house. Upon closer observation, it was identified as an Indian Spectacled Cobra, one of India’s most medically significant venomous snake species.
The sight of the cobra created panic among the family members and nearby residents, with people gathering around the area in concern.
Following the discovery, the family informed Shubham G.R., President of the Wild Animals and Nature Helping Society and a known wildlife rescuer from Nagpur’s Seminary Hills area.
After reaching the spot, Shubham G.R. carried out a rescue operation and safely captured the cobra without harming it or endangering local residents. The snake was later released into a suitable forest habitat in accordance with wildlife rescue practices.
Speaking about the species, rescuers highlighted that the Indian Spectacled Cobra possesses neurotoxic venom, which affects the nervous system and can become life-threatening if medical treatment is delayed. Snakebite outcomes vary depending on factors such as the amount of venom injected, location of the bite, and speed of medical intervention.
Wildlife experts also urged citizens not to attempt handling snakes themselves and to immediately contact trained rescuers or forest authorities if such incidents occur.
The timely rescue helped avoid panic and ensured both public safety and wildlife conservation.
