MP-Based Ganja Smuggling Racket Busted in Nagpur; Odisha Supply Link Under Investigation, 2 Arrested

Nagpur:: In a major anti-narcotics operation conducted during the ongoing ‘Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign Week’, Kalamna Police in Nagpur arrested two accused from Madhya Pradesh and seized 4.168 kg of ganja worth Rs 80,000, along with a scooter and a bag, taking the total value of seized property to Rs 1.30 lakh.


The case has been registered under Crime No. 571/2026 under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act.


Suspicious Movement During Patrol Leads to Arrest


According to police, the action was carried out on the night of June 19, 2026, around 11 pm, near Vaishnavi Automobile and Servicing Centre in the Chikhli area of Kalamna Market.


During routine patrolling, police personnel noticed two men standing suspiciously with a two-wheeler in a dark area. Upon questioning and conducting a lawful search, officers recovered 4 kg 168 grams of ganja concealed inside a bag carried by the suspects.


Accused Identified


The arrested accused have been identified as:


  1. Som Mahesh Bediya alias Kalkhor (29)

   Currently residing on rent at New Om Nagar, near Hanuman Temple, Bharatwada-Kalamna, Nagpur; originally from Golpahadi area, Badanapura, under Purani Chhawani police station limits, Madhya Pradesh.

  1. Asim Khan, son of Jameel Khan (34)

   Resident of Village Gurra, near Noori Masjid, Jaura tehsil, Morena district, Madhya Pradesh.


Seized Property Worth Rs 1.30 Lakh


Police seized the following items from the accused:


  • 4.168 kg ganja valued at Rs 80,000
  • Honda Activa scooter (MH-34-AG-2036) valued at Rs 50,000
  • Green-blue-grey college bag (Puma) valued at Rs 500


Total seizure: Rs 1,30,500


Odisha Supply Link Under Investigation


During preliminary investigation, police found that accused Asim Khan allegedly sourced ganja from Odisha at lower prices, while co-accused Som Bediya allegedly identified buyers in Nagpur and facilitated local distribution.


Police are now investigating:


  • From whom the ganja was procured in Odisha.
  • The intended recipient or buyer in Nagpur.
  • Whether the accused are connected to a larger interstate narcotics network.


Based on a complaint filed on behalf of the government by Head Constable Pramod Kangale, a case has been registered at Kalamna Police Station under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Gajanan Raut.


Nagpur Police Continue Anti-Drug Drive


Nagpur Police stated that the city administration is intensifying efforts to make Nagpur drug-freeunder the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal. Authorities said such anti-narcotics operations will continue in the coming days.


The operation was conducted under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, DCP Nityanand Jha, ACP Rohit Ovhal, and executed by the team led by Senior Police Inspector Pravin Kale, along with officers Karim Pathan, Gajanan Raut, Pramod Kangale, Vishal Bhaisare, Nitin Mishra, Lalit Shende, Avinash Gwalvanshi, and Ajay Gatlewar.
