Nagpur: Central Railway has recorded a major breakthrough in protecting national assets by recovering stolen and unlawfully held railway property worth ₹87.42 lakh under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act [RP(UP) Act] during the financial year 2024–25. Among the five divisions, Nagpur emerged as the second-highest contributor in terms of recovery value after Mumbai.
Enhanced patrolling, surveillance, and focused operations by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) played a pivotal role in curbing incidents of theft and illegal possession. A total of 430 cases were registered and 974 offenders were apprehended this year, reflecting a notable improvement from the previous financial year (2023–24), which saw 534 cases and 1,272 arrests.
Division-wise recoveries revealed the following data:
• Mumbai Division led with 179 cases, 345 arrests, and ₹23,79,619 in recoveries.
• Nagpur Division followed with 84 cases, 243 arrests, and the highest recovery value of ₹33,07,988.
• Pune Division reported 71 cases, 159 arrests, and ₹18,91,771 recovered.
• Bhusawal Division recorded 77 cases, 171 arrests, and ₹7,42,718 in property recovered.
• Solapur Division contributed with 16 cases, 56 arrests, and ₹4,20,292 recovered.
The Central Railway commended the efforts of RPF personnel for their continued vigilance and efficiency in protecting railway infrastructure and assets. The data underscores a strong operational focus on reducing theft-related incidents while ensuring swift action against offenders.
