Room in Nagpur’s Red-Light Area Sealed for One Year by Lakadganj Police

Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on the Ganga Jamuna red-light area, Lakadganj Police sealed a room used for prostitution for a period of one year following court orders.


Earlier, on February 14, 2025, police had raided a premises in Ganga Jamuna locality, Masurkar Chowk, Nagpur, and rescued a woman. During the raid, accused Suman Balram Dhanawat (50), originally from Gwalior, and Ashok Barsuji Uke (50), resident of Ganga Jamuna, Nagpur, were caught luring minor girls into prostitution by offering them money and forcing them into the trade.


The accused had been providing the first-floor room of Circle No. 11/16, Ward No. 37, Ganga Jamuna locality, owned by Uke, for prostitution activities. A case was registered under BNS Section 370 along with Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).


Following investigation, police submitted a proposal to seal the premises. Acting on this, the Commissioner of Police ordered the closure of the said room from July 30, 2025, for one year. The premises was sealed in the presence of panch witnesses.


The action was taken under the supervision of DCP Rahul Madne (Zone 3) and ACP Shweta Khade (Lakadganj Division) by PI Hemant Chandewar, API Sunil Jadhav, PSI Anand Maraskolhe, PSI Geeta Borkar, and PSI Pragya Ramteke.
