Nagpur: The Economic Offences Wing of Nagpur City Police has issued a public alert after receiving complaints of a large-scale financial fraud allegedly targeting rural women.

Over 5,000 Women Allegedly Duped with False Promises

According to complaints received, Pawan Wankhede, director of Gaon Maza Udyog Foundation, allegedly lured women with promises of:

  • Business opportunities
  • Government-subsidized loans
  • Allocation of land for industries
  • Ownership and employment

He reportedly collected ₹1,000 from each woman as membership fees, amassing nearly ₹50 lakh from around 5,000 women.

Investigation Underway, Police Seek More Victims

The Economic Offences Wing has initiated an inquiry into the matter. Police have urged citizens—especially women from rural areas—who may have been cheated by the foundation to come forward with relevant documents.

Victims can contact the Economic Offences Wing, Nagpur, or reach out to investigating officer PSI Sushil Dhokte.
