Nagpur: Taking serious note of unauthorized tree pruning in Suryanagar, Nita Thackeray, Mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, has directed officials to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor responsible and initiate further action.

Residents Raise Concerns Over Illegal Tree Cutting

The Mayor visited Suryanagar in Ward No. 24 on Tuesday following complaints from local residents and members of the Suryanagar Welfare Society regarding excessive pruning carried out without permission.

Citizens alleged that under the pretext of trimming, several trees were heavily cut, leading to reduced shade and increased discomfort during the summer season. The issue had earlier been formally raised with civic authorities.

Mayor Orders Strict Action and Police Inquiry

During the visit, Mayor Thackeray instructed officials to:

• Issue a show-cause notice to the contractor involved
• Seek details from Kalamna Police Station regarding the vehicle used to transport the cut wood
• Initiate appropriate legal action based on findings

She also directed the garden department to ensure compensatory plantation, mandating that new trees be planted based on the age and number of those cut.

Push for Better Civic Amenities

In addition to addressing the tree-cutting issue, the Mayor ordered the installation of a smart toilet in the women’s garden in the area to improve public amenities.

Mayor Thackeray also took cognizance of reports of illegal tree cutting in Lata Mangeshkar Garden and instructed officials to impose strict penalties and take firm action against those responsible.

The visit was attended by key civic representatives, including committee chairperson Sarita Kaware, corporator Pradeep Pohane, corporator Dugeshwari Kosekar, and other officials, along with members of the Suryanagar Welfare Society and local residents.
