Nagpur: Kalamna Police arrested a 26-year-old man and seized 6.56 grams of suspected MD powder, 1.099 kg of wet ganja, a mobile phone and a car, collectively valued at around Rs 11.36 lakh, during a night patrol in Nagpur.

The action took place at around 1.15 am on August 14, 2026, when a Kalamna Police investigation team was patrolling the area. Officers spotted a white Kia Carens (MH 49 AS 5936) in an accident-damaged condition beneath the Kalamna railway crossing overbridge.

Police approached the vehicle and found a man inside. He identified himself as Deepak Jagdishprasad Soni (26), a resident of Kalamna.

Suspecting that the vehicle was being used to transport narcotics, police conducted a search in the presence of witnesses while following the prescribed procedures under the NDPS Act.

The search allegedly resulted in the recovery of 6.56 grams of MD powder packed in a zip-lock pouch and 1.099 kg of wet ganja emitting a strong odour.

During questioning, Soni allegedly told police that he had brought the MD powder and ganja for sale with the assistance of a wanted associate identified as Sonu, reportedly from the Tajbag area of Nagpur.

Police seized the narcotics, a mobile phone and the Kia Carens, with the total value of the seized property estimated at Rs 11.36 lakh.

A case has been registered at Kalamna Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including Sections 8(c), 22(b), 20(b)(ii)(b) and 29.

Soni has been arrested, while police are searching for his alleged associate. Further investigation is underway.
