CP Vishwas Nangre Patil contacts Raymond chairman Gautam Singhania to secure uniform fabric worth Rs 1,500 at just Rs 500 per piece

Nagpur: Khaki has become the colour of Diwali for Nagpur Police this year, with all 8,500 personnel and officers set to receive a special festive gift in the form of discounted uniform fabric. In an unusual departure from the traditional Diwali giveaways, Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil has arranged a bulk purchase of khaki cloth for the entire city police force.

Nangre Patil personally contacted Raymond chairman Gautam Singhania to facilitate the procurement of 8,500 pieces of khaki fabric, each measuring three-and-a-half metres. The fabric, originally valued at Rs 1,500 per piece, was made available to the police at just Rs 500, translating into a substantial saving for the force.

The initiative marks a shift from the customary practice of distributing rangoli, earthen lamps and packets of Haldiram's bhujia worth Rs 500 to employees through the police welfare fund during Diwali.

This year, instead of conventional festive goodies, the Commissioner chose a gift closely associated with the identity and duties of police personnel. The fabric will enable all 8,500 officers and staff members to have uniforms made from the same material, bringing greater uniformity to the force.

The initiative has given a distinctive khaki touch to the festive celebrations, with Nagpur Police personnel receiving a gift that is both practical and symbolic of their commitment to serving citizens.
