Couple eloped in August 2025 when girl was a minor; she gave birth to a baby girl at Mayo Hospital

Nagpur: A 20-year-old man has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly entering into a relationship with a minor girl, eloping with her and marrying her despite knowing that she was below 18 years of age. The case came to light after the girl gave birth to a baby girl at Mayo Hospital in Nagpur.

According to the complaint registered at Pachpaoli Police Station, the accused and the girl were neighbours, living opposite each other in the same locality. They had known each other since childhood and were reportedly in a relationship.

Police said that in August 2025, when the girl was still a minor, the accused allegedly eloped with her and solemnised their marriage outside the city despite being aware of her age. He subsequently brought her to his home and introduced her as his wife. His parents also reportedly accepted her, following which she started living with him.

During their stay together, the couple allegedly established physical relations, following which the girl became pregnant. On November 5, 2026, at around 12.38 pm, she delivered a baby girl at Mayo Hospital.

According to the girl’s statement, her date of birth is May 16, 2008. She was below 18 when the alleged physical relationship began in August 2025.

Based on her statement, Pachpaoli Police registered an offence against the accused under Section 64(2)(l) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act.

Further investigation is underway.
