Nagpur: In a pioneering move, Nagpur Police has introduced two advanced technology-driven tools under Operation Shakti to intensify its fight against human trafficking, trace missing persons, and act swiftly against offenders. The initiative marks the first-of-its-kind deployment in Maharashtra.
The AI-powered platform Garuda Drishti, recently unveiled by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, has been upgraded with a new feature to detect online and digital trafficking. The software scans social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to identify trafficking-related activities such as fake job scams, escort services, and fraudulent advertisements. Officials said the system will ensure quicker detection of such crimes and facilitate faster case registration under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA).
Alongside, Nagpur Police has rolled out a Facial Recognition (FR) Surveillance System, with FR-enabled cameras installed at sensitive hotspots across the city. The system helps trace missing women and children and track repeat offenders. It generates real-time alerts, enabling immediate police intervention.
“With Operation Shakti, we are integrating advanced technology into smart policing. These tools will help us act faster against perpetrators and strengthen our ability to trace missing women and children,” said DCP Mahak Swami.
“Our fight against human trafficking is bolstered with AI-driven tools like Garuda Drishti and Facial Recognition surveillance. These innovations highlight our commitment to proactive, people-centric policing for a safer Nagpur,” added Dr. Ravinder Singal, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur City.
Officials stressed that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to embed AI and surveillance technology into crime prevention, ensuring that Nagpur emerges not only as a smart city but also as a safe city.
