Nagpur: A week after the Bombay High Court directed the transfer of the Ram Jhula accident case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the case diary and related documents have yet to reach the CID office. Despite the court's clear order for an immediate transfer, the documents remained with the Tehsil police as of Thursday evening.

The division bench of Justices Vinay Joshi and Vrushali V Joshi had transferred the investigation from Tehsil police to the State CID, citing significant gaps in the initial probe. The High Court emphasized the need for an expedited investigation, further instructing that an official of Superintendent of Police (SP) or Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank oversee the progress of the case.

Meanwhile, the sessions court, which is currently hearing a plea filed by the city police for the cancellation of bail granted to the key accused, Ritika Maloo, awaits the State CID’s response on the matter. The defence lawyer argued for the disposal of the case on the grounds that the investigation had been officially transferred to the CID, complicating the proceedings.

Senior Inspector Sandeep Buwa of Tehsil police station stated that while they had attempted to deliver the case documents to the CID office on Thursday, it was closed for the day. "The formalities took time as we were awaiting direction from the State CID Headquarters in Pune regarding which unit would take over the case," Buwa explained.

The delay in transferring the case has raised concerns over the pace of the investigation, which has already been criticized by the High Court. The case, which involves a serious accident on the Ram Jhula bridge, continues to draw public attention, with the court's intervention aimed at ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation.
