NAGPUR: A 38-year-old man has been booked by Gittikhadan police for allegedly sexually exploiting a 23-year-old woman on the false promise of marriage and subsequently causing her abortion. The accused had reportedly become acquainted with the woman’s brother while both were lodged in jail.

According to the police complaint, the woman’s brother and the accused were in jail together. After the accused was released on parole, the woman’s brother asked her to meet him.

The woman subsequently met the accused under Gittikhadan police station limits. During their meeting, the accused allegedly promised to marry her and established physical relations with her.

The accused allegedly continued to have physical relations with the woman on multiple occasions, following which she became pregnant. When she was around three months pregnant, the accused allegedly gave her some medication that resulted in an abortion.

The woman subsequently approached Gittikhadan police and lodged a complaint on October 27.

Based on her statement, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
