Nagpur: Taking an unusual yet commendable step to maintain road safety, the Kalamna Police Station staff filled large potholes on the Old Kamptee Road to prevent accidents and ease traffic movement.

According to officials, heavy rains had created deep potholes in front of the Old Kamptee Road bridge within Kalamna police limits. During downpours, these potholes often became invisible under stagnant rainwater, causing frequent accidents and severe traffic disruption. Concerned over the rising number of mishaps, Kalamna police decided to take immediate action.

On September 26, 2025, police personnel themselves undertook the repair work. They levelled the damaged stretch by filling the potholes with murum and gravel, ensuring the surface was even enough for vehicles to pass safely. This proactive measure not only reduced accident risks but also restored the smooth flow of traffic in the busy area.

Residents and motorists have appreciated the swift action, noting that it reflects the department’s commitment to public safety beyond their regular law-enforcement duties. Authorities stated that while road repairs are typically the responsibility of municipal agencies, the police intervened to avert further accidents during the ongoing monsoon.

The initiative highlights the importance of inter-departmental cooperation and quick response to civic issues, especially when public safety is at stake. Citizens have urged civic bodies to carry out permanent repairs to avoid similar hazards in the future.
