Nagpur: A fire broke out at the police quarters in Takli Police Headquarters on Diwali, Monday evening, causing damage to the houses of three police personnel. The incident reportedly began from the house of a traffic branch constable and soon spread to adjoining quarters. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to sources, the fire started at Quarter No. 286, occupied by Constable Ashok T. Aatram, attached to the Traffic Branch. At the time of the incident, most of the families were busy preparing Diwali faral and drawing rangoli when smoke began billowing from Aatram’s house.
Police officers residing in the vicinity immediately rushed back after learning about the fire. Firefighters and fellow cops acted swiftly, managing to prevent the blaze from spreading further.
The fire caused damage to several household items, including a cooler, gas cylinder, sewing machine, sofa, TV set, bedding, and electrical wiring. The estimated loss in Aatram’s quarter is around ₹1.5 lakh.
The flames also affected two adjoining quarters — Quarter No. 291, belonging to Dharmendra Mishra, and Quarter No. 290, owned by Mangesh Borkute.
In Mishra’s house, furniture, bedding, and two pet lovebirds were damaged, with an estimated loss of ₹20,000. In Borkute’s house, items including shoes, a table, bedding, a drum, and dumbbells worth approximately ₹25,000 were damaged.
Thanks to timely intervention, the fire was confined to a small area, saving the entire building from destruction. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, though initial reports suggest a possible short circuit.
Further investigation is underway.
