Nagpur Crime Branch Unit 1 Arrests Serial Thief Involved in 34 Housebreakings

Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, Unit 1 of the Crime Branch, Nagpur Police has arrested a notorious habitual housebreaker involved in 34 housebreaking and vehicle theft cases, along with his associate, following the investigation of a recent office burglary at Sonegaon police station limits.


Case Details: Office Burglary in Sonegaon Area

The complainant, Prasad Heramb Fadnavis (50), resident of Narkesari Layout, Jayprakash Nagar, Nagpur, filed a complaint at Sonegaon Police Station. He stated that on March 12, 2026 around 7:00 PM, he locked his office at Ved Parachyuni Vision Pvt. Ltd., SIP House, 3rd Floor, Sonegaon, and returned home.


When he returned the next morning at around 10:00 AM on March 13, 2026, he found the office lock broken and valuables stolen. Upon inspection, it was revealed that unknown burglars had broken the latch and decamped with:

  • Cash of ₹55,000
  • Gold coin weighing 2 grams
  • Silver coin
  • DVR system
  • Total stolen property worth ₹72,155


Arrests Based on Secret Tip-Off

During patrolling, police received confidential information from an informant, which led them to suspect Amol Mahadev Raut (38), a resident of Borkute Layout, near Durga Devi Temple, Butibori (Nagpur Rural).


Upon detention and interrogation, Amol initially gave evasive replies but later confessed to the crime along with his associate Dhanraj Ukandrav Dudhakawale (56), resident near Gaikwad College, Dongargaon area under Hingna police limits.


Recovered Stolen Property

Police recovered several stolen and used items from the accused, including:

  • One yellow metal coin (approx. 2 grams) valued at ₹30,000
  • One white metal coin with Goddess Lakshmi engraving (approx. 20 grams) valued at ₹6,000
  • Hero Destiny moped (MH-40/CF-0041) worth ₹70,000
  • Two mobile phones worth ₹11,000

Total seized property: ₹1,17,000


Serial Offender with 34 Criminal Cases

Investigations revealed that accused Amol Mahadev Raut is a habitual offender with 34 registered cases of housebreaking and vehicle theft across various police stations.


The Crime Branch has initiated preventive action procedures and submitted communication to Sonegaon Police Station for further legal action. Both accused were medically examined and handed over to Sonegaon Police for further investigation.


The arrest was executed by Unit 1 Crime Branch officers led by PI Dyaneshwar Bhedodkar and staff through coordinated intelligence-based action.
