Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illicit liquor circulation, the Crime Branch’s Vehicle Theft Prevention Unit seized illegal foreign liquor worth ₹6,25,996 and arrested one accused during a targeted operation near the Ganeshpeth Bus Depot Workshop. Intrestingly, seizure came just days before Holi.
Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted a Volkswagen Vento (MH 05 AS 8927) and detained driver Ashish Ishwar Kamble (36). A search revealed 384 bottles of Royal Stag (180 ml) and 12 bottles of Bombay Special Whisky (750 ml) being transported without permits.
During interrogation, Kamble confessed that the illegal stock was procured with the help of an accomplice, Atul, a native of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh, who is currently absconding.
Police confiscated the car, liquor bottles, and two mobile phones. A case under Section 65(A) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act has been registered at Ganeshpeth Police Station.
