Nagpur: In a major action against drug peddling, the Anti-Narcotics Squad of Nagpur Crime Branch arrested two men with ganja in Pardi area on Thursday evening. Narcotics worth ₹37,350 were seized from their possession.
The raid took place on August 21 between 8.30 pm and 10.35 pm, when officers laid a trap near Agrawal Godown, Old Pardi Naka, Bhandara Road. Acting on a tip-off, police stopped two suspects and identified them as Durgesh Hiralal Chaurasia (23), resident of Gulmohar Chowk, Kalamna, and Sunil Laxmanrao Vairagade (54), resident of Gauri Nagar, Pardi.
On checking, police recovered 1.05 kg of ganja and two mobile phones from their possession. The duo revealed that they were involved in the illegal trade with the help of their accomplice, Lalit Srivastava, resident of Chandramani Nagar, Pardi, who is currently absconding.
Police said the accused were planning to sell the ganja for personal profit. A case has been registered under Sections 8(C), 20(B)(2)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Pardi Police Station. The accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.
The action was taken under the guidance of CP Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal, Jt. CP Navin Chand Reddy, Addl. CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP Abhijit Patil, led by PI Gajanan Gulhane and his team.
