Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit 4 of Nagpur Police has successfully cracked a housebreaking and vehicle theft case within the Ajni Police jurisdiction, arresting one accused and recovering stolen property worth ₹14.04 lakh.
Between June 7 and June 8, complainant Satish Baijulal Shendre (46), a resident of Ajni Railway Quarters, had gone to Rajnandgaon, Madhya Pradesh, with his family. During his absence, unidentified burglars broke the lock and latch of his house near Durga Mata Temple, Ajni, and stole gold jewellery worth ₹4.88 lakh from the bedroom.
An offence under Sections 305(A), 331(3), and 331(4) of the BNS was registered at Ajni Police Station.
During parallel investigation, Crime Branch Unit 4 received credible intel about three individuals loitering near the Ajni Railway TRS Office with a black Splendor bike, discussing jewellery sales. Acting swiftly, police laid a trap and apprehended accused Sumit Pawan Sontakke (24), along with two juveniles in conflict with the law.
Upon interrogation, the trio confessed to the burglary. Police recovered 167.4 grams of gold worth approximately ₹13.39 lakh and 400 grams of silver worth ₹45,000 from their possession. They also admitted to stealing the black Splendor motorcycle from Mahatma Phule Nagar under Hudkeshwar Police Station limits. The vehicle, valued at ₹20,000, was also seized.
The total recovery stands at ₹14.04 lakh. The arrested accused and seized items were handed over to Ajni Police for further investigation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime) Abhijit Patil, by PI Kamalakar Gaddime, PSI Vaibhav Barange, and other staff including Satish Thakre, Abhishek Shaniware, and Mahesh Katwale.
