Nagpur: Amid rising summer temperatures and forecasts of unseasonal rain, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has accelerated pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work across Nagpur district to ensure uninterrupted and smooth electricity supply for consumers.
Power Utility Gears Up for Weather Challenges
Despite extreme heat conditions in Vidarbha during April, MSEDCL teams are actively engaged in maintenance work. Since most power distribution infrastructure is exposed to open environments, it is highly vulnerable to changing weather conditions.
To minimize disruptions during the upcoming monsoon, the utility has initiated large-scale preventive measures, including:
- Allocation of necessary funds for maintenance
- Ensuring adequate stock of transformers, poles, and insulators
- Strengthening infrastructure to reduce faults during heavy rains
Tree Trimming and Obstruction Removal in Full Swing
One of the key causes of power outages is obstruction along electricity lines. To address this, MSEDCL is working on a war footing to remove:
- Tree branches hanging over power lines
- Kites, nylon strings (manja), banners, flags, and plastic materials stuck in lines
This work is being carried out with the support of local civic bodies to prevent disruptions during storms and rainfall.
Infrastructure Strengthening and Safety Measures
Extensive technical work is also underway across the district, including:
- Tightening loose guarding and electrical spans
- Fixing sagging wires between poles
- Replacing damaged pins and disc insulators
- Checking transformer oil levels and replacing silica gel in breathers
Special emphasis is being placed on earthing systems, which are critical for electrical safety. Efforts include:
- Strengthening transformer earthing
- Improving earthing for poles, feeder pillars, and distribution boxes
- Increasing the height of feeder pillars in flood-prone areas
- Conducting oil filtration, breaker repairs, battery maintenance, and fuse replacements
Maintenance Work Restricted to Morning Hours
Considering the inconvenience caused by power cuts during peak heat, Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke has directed all teams to complete maintenance work before 12 noon.
This measure aims to reduce inconvenience to consumers during the hottest part of the day, while still ensuring essential maintenance is carried out.
MSEDCL Appeals for Public Cooperation
MSEDCL has acknowledged the inconvenience caused by temporary power interruptions but emphasized that these works are essential for safe, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity supply during the monsoon season.
The utility has urged citizens to cooperate during this period. Consumers will be informed about scheduled outages through the official mobile app and outage management systems to ensure timely updates.
