Nagpur: In a commendable act of prompt response and humanitarian duty, a team from Beltarodi Police Station was honoured by AIIMS Nagpur for safely assisting a pregnant woman in labour during a high-security VIP movement involving President Droupadi Murmu.
Police Team Felicitated for Swift Action
The felicitation ceremony was conducted by AIIMS Nagpur’s Executive Director, Prashant Joshi, who presented a bouquet to officers and personnel from Beltarodi Police Station. The recognition was given for their timely intervention, sensitivity, and dedication to duty in handling a medical emergency under challenging circumstances.
Emergency During High-Security Movement
The incident occurred on April 15, 2026, around 12:45 PM near Chinchbhuvan Square on the busy Nagpur–Wardha Road. Traffic in the area had come to a standstill due to stringent security arrangements for the President’s convoy, following a “zero-tolerance” protocol.
Amid the congestion, a pregnant woman in active labour was stranded in a vehicle. Acting swiftly after being alerted by a bystander, the Beltarodi police team—led by Assistant Police Inspector Pankaj Kakde, along with Head Constable Prashant Thaokar and Constable Ajay Neware—took immediate action.
Emergency Corridor Created, Lives Prioritized
Demonstrating exceptional coordination, the police cleared an emergency route by moving nearly 80 to 100 vehicles, ensuring the woman was transported without delay to AIIMS Nagpur. She was admitted safely for medical care, averting a potentially critical situation.
Recognised for Duty Beyond Protocol
Officials at AIIMS praised the police team for prioritizing human life even during a high-security operation. Their quick thinking and decisive action were widely appreciated as an example of effective policing combined with compassion.
President Droupadi Murmu was in Nagpur for a multi-day visit, attending key events including a convocation ceremony at AIIMS Nagpur and a program at the National Academy of Direct Taxes.
