Man Shot During Property Dispute in Manewada, 7 Held for Attempted Murder

Nagpur: Police have arrested seven persons for allegedly opening fire at two men during a dispute over property-related money in the Manewada area on Thursday night. One of the intended targets, identified as Kartik alias Shubham Purushottam Dharmik, 33, sustained two bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Nagpur.


According to the Beltarodi police, complainant Shailesh Hiramanji Gulhane, 40, a resident of Adhyapak Nagar, Manewada, was at home when his friend Kartik called him and said he had quarrelled with Sunil Pandurang Banait, 48, over a dispute at Manewada Road. Kartik told him he was heading to Banait’s house.


Gulhane then accompanied Kartik in his Baleno car along with friends Bablu Solanki and Bhavesh Rao. They reached near Banait’s house at Gotal Panjari and Kartik called Banait.


Police said that while Kartik and Banait were discussing the property-related dispute, Kartik asked Banait to call Chandramani Nagarale. Around 11.50 pm on September 10, a white Renault Duster arrived at the spot carrying several accused.


Police alleged that Anand Suresh Thakur, 30, drove the vehicle towards Gulhane and stopped it. The occupants got out, and Anand allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire with an intention to kill. Kartik was hit by two bullets while Gulhane and his friends were getting into their Baleno.


The injured Kartik was rushed to AIIMS Nagpur, where he is currently receiving treatment.


Beltarodi police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act.


Seven arrested


Following the incident, multiple teams from the Nagpur Crime Branch, including Units 2, 4 and 5, the Anti-Land Mafia Squad, Police Commissioner’s Special Squad and NatGrid team, were formed. Teams from Ajni, Hudkeshwar and Beltarodi police stations, along with night-patrolling personnel, also joined the search.


Using technical surveillance, vehicle details and mobile phone tracking, police traced and detained the suspects from Butibori, Chandramani Nagar and Gotal Panjari.


Those arrested include Sunil Pandurang Banait, 48; Anand Suresh Thakur, 30; Purnchandramani Domaji Nagarale, 55; Sulabh Sanjay Divekar, 29; Nilesh Naresh Tembhurne, 37; Akash Mahesh Yadav, 33; and Sonu alias Dharmendra Radhesham Thakur, 34.


Police seized a Maruti Suzuki Brezza (MH-40-CA-5320) and a Renault Duster (MH-49-AE-6332)from the accused.


The arrested accused were produced before a court, which granted police custody until September 15. Beltarodi Police Inspector Ravindra Naikwad is conducting further investigation.
