Nagpur: An unidentified man, estimated to be around 65 years old, died after being knocked down by a speeding car near the parking area opposite the accident department of Mayo Hospital under the jurisdiction of Tehsil police on Friday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred between 9.30 am and 10 am on September 11. The driver of a car bearing registration number MH-12-HF-0560 allegedly drove at high speed and in a negligent manner before hitting the unidentified pedestrian. The driver reportedly fled the spot after the accident.

The victim sustained serious head injuries in the collision. He was immediately taken to the accident department of Mayo Hospital for treatment. However, doctors examined him at around 11.45 am and declared him dead.

Following a complaint by Rahul Gautam Salve, a security supervisor with MSF and a resident of the Ajni area, Tahsil police registered a case against the car driver.

Police booked the accused under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the BNS, along with Sections 184, 187 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the driver involved in the fatal accident.
