Nagpur: A 42-year-old daily-wage worker was allegedly kidnapped from a footpath in Beltarodi and subjected to brutal assault after three men accused him of stealing from a chicken shop. The accused allegedly demanded ₹3,000 as ransom and hung the victim upside down from the ceiling after tying his legs with a dupatta.
According to the complaint registered at Beltarodi police station, the incident took place between October 5 and 7 at Sonam Chicken Centre in the Beltarodi area. The victim was reportedly sleeping on a footpath when accused Alok Shende and Saket Gaikwad approached him and allegedly abused him, accusing him of stealing from the shop and demanding to know where the stolen goods had been kept.
When the victim denied the allegation, the accused allegedly forcibly dragged him into the chicken shop and confined him inside a room. They then allegedly demanded ₹3,000 and threatened to kill him.
The accused allegedly tied the victim’s legs with a dupatta, hung him upside down from the ceiling and assaulted him with a stick. Police said another accused, identified as Jayprakash alias Thapa Dayali, allegedly recorded the assault on video.
The victim reportedly managed to escape after around 3.30 am and subsequently approached the police.
Beltarodi police registered a case under provisions including Sections 140(2), 308(4), 118(1), 119(1), 127(2), 296, 351(3) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police have arrested all three accused. According to police records, Gaikwad has three previous cases registered at Beltarodi police station, while Dayali has a previous case under the NDPS Act. No previous criminal record was found against Shende.
