Nagpur: An unidentified thief allegedly cut through the tin-sheet walls of two adjoining shops near the MP Bus Stand on Railway Station Road and stole cash and cigarette packets worth a total of ₹29,000.
The theft took place between 9.30 pm on October 6 and 9.30 am on October 7 under the jurisdiction of Sitabuldi police station.
According to the complaint filed by Suresh Dashrath Borkar (57), a general store owner from Wathoda, the thief targeted his shop, numbered 69, and the adjoining shop, numbered 71.
Police said the accused cut open the tin-sheet wall of the shops and entered the premises. From Borkar’s shop, the thief allegedly stole ₹10,000 in cash kept in the counter drawer and 40 packets of cigarettes worth around ₹5,000.
The accused then allegedly used the opening to enter the adjoining shop, from where ₹10,000 in cash and 25 cigarette packets worth ₹4,000 were stolen.
The total value of the stolen cash and cigarettes from the two shops was ₹29,000.
Based on Borkar’s complaint, Sitabuldi police registered a case against an unidentified person under Sections 305, 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police are examining the available evidence and making efforts to identify and trace the accused.
