NAGPUR: A 22-year-old driver was allegedly assaulted with fists and a wooden stick by two men who questioned him about selling ganja in the Wadi area of Nagpur. The accused allegedly attacked the man after he denied selling the contraband and refused to get into their car.

According to the complaint filed by Harsh Harikant Mishra (22), a resident of Tekdi, Wadi, the incident took place near Bharadwaj Hospital on Khadgaon Road on October 24 at around 1.30 pm.

Mishra was returning home on his two-wheeler after stopping at a roadside tea stall when the two accused, identified as Datta Gorle, a resident of the area near Delhi Public School and the SDPL building in Dabha, and Sohel Ganvir, a resident near Sai Mandir in Dabha, arrived in a four-wheeler and stopped beside him.

The duo allegedly asked Mishra whether he sold ganja. When he denied the allegation, they reportedly asked him to get into their vehicle. After Mishra refused, both accused allegedly assaulted him with fists and blows.

Gorle allegedly took a wooden stick from the vehicle and struck Mishra on his legs, hands and head, leaving him injured. The accused also allegedly threatened him with further harm.

The situation changed when a police vehicle arrived at the spot, following which the accused allegedly fled.

Mishra subsequently received treatment at Lax Hospital. Based on his complaint, Wadi police registered a case against Gorle and Ganvir under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is underway.
