Nagpur: Devendra Fadnavis on Monday asserted that Maharashtra is fully prepared to lead the economy of the future, driven by infrastructure, innovation, technology, clean energy, talent, and institutional trust.

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Maharashtra Chief Minister said the state is actively building a strong economic ecosystem to position itself among the world’s most influential regional economies by 2047.

Maharashtra Preparing for Next Era of Global Economy

Addressing the “Vision for India @100” session at the two-day summit held at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, Fadnavis said the future global economy would be shaped by countries and regions that successfully integrate infrastructure, technological innovation, clean energy, urban planning, and institutional reliability.

“Maharashtra is consciously preparing itself for the next phase of the global economy. We are building a comprehensive ecosystem that combines infrastructure, talent, sustainability, and technology,” he said.

The session was attended by Chandrajit Banerjee and Rajiv Memani, who praised Maharashtra’s economic growth and development under the leadership of the Chief Minister.

India Defining Global Change Under PM Modi’s Leadership

Fadnavis stated that India is no longer merely participating in global transformation but is now defining it under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

He said the world is currently witnessing geopolitical fragmentation, energy transition, technological disruptions, supply chain realignments, and uncertainty about future economic growth. Amid these challenges, India has emerged as a symbol of stability, ambition, resilience, and execution capability.

According to the Chief Minister, global investors now view India as a country capable of rapidly implementing policies and converting opportunities into sustainable growth.

Maharashtra Targets $1 Trillion Economy by 2030

Highlighting Maharashtra’s economic strength, Fadnavis said the state currently has a $660 billion economy and contributes nearly 15 percent to India’s GDP.

He added that Maharashtra attracts almost 40 percent of India’s total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and contributes more than 20 percent to the country’s engineering exports.

“Maharashtra is already India’s economic engine, but now we are preparing for a much bigger role globally,” he said.

The Chief Minister outlined the state’s ambitious roadmap:

  • $1 trillion economy target by 2030
  • Position among the world’s leading regional economies by 2047
  • Expansion in AI, semiconductors, EVs, data centers, and deep-tech sectors

He also revealed that Maharashtra secured investment proposals worth nearly Rs 30 lakh crore during the Davos summit this year.

Mega Infrastructure Projects Transforming Maharashtra

Fadnavis emphasized that large-scale infrastructure projects are reshaping Maharashtra’s economic geography and strengthening its position as an investment destination.

Major projects highlighted included:

  • Mumbai Trans Harbour Link
  • Samruddhi Mahamarg
  • Navi Mumbai International Airport
  • Vadhvan Port
  • Metro rail expansion projects
  • Industrial corridors
  • Digital infrastructure networks

“When geography changes, the economy changes,” the Chief Minister remarked.

Maharashtra Emerging as India’s Technology and Data Hub

The Chief Minister said Maharashtra is positioning itself at the center of emerging industries such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicles, green energy, and global capability centers (GCCs).

According to him:

  • Maharashtra houses 24 percent of India’s GCC centers
  • Nearly 60 percent of India’s data centers are located in the state
  • Maharashtra leads in EV manufacturing and next-generation mobility

He added that the state aims not just to manufacture products but also to create intellectual property, innovation, and globally competitive technologies.

Balanced Regional Development Key to Economic Growth

Fadnavis stressed that balanced regional development is not only socially important but also economically wise.

He outlined a region-specific growth vision for Maharashtra:

  • Mumbai as a global financial and innovation capital
  • Pune as a manufacturing, research, and technology hub
  • Nagpur as India’s logistics and geo-strategic center
  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nashik as next-generation manufacturing hubs
  • Gadchiroli to emerge as India’s largest green steel-producing district by 2032

He also highlighted the growing importance of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in driving future industrial growth.

Sustainability and Green Energy Central to Maharashtra’s Vision

The Chief Minister said Maharashtra is aggressively expanding renewable energy, EV ecosystems, green mobility, and sustainable industrial infrastructure.

“For us, sustainability is not just regulatory compliance; it is a competitive strategy,” he said.

He noted that young entrepreneurs and professionals today seek environmentally friendly, innovation-driven cities and ecosystems, prompting Maharashtra to prioritize urban transformation as part of its economic vision.

Government, Industry, and Academia Must Work Together

Concluding his speech, Fadnavis said Maharashtra’s biggest strengths are its openness, entrepreneurial spirit, progressive mindset, and ability to absorb capital and innovation.

He emphasized that future economic leadership would require close collaboration between governments, industries, academic institutions, and researchers.

“When India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047, future generations should remember this period as the era that transformed the nation,” he said.
