Nagpur: The Nagpur Traffic Department has intensified its special drive against motorists driving under the influence of narcotic substances. As part of the ongoing enforcement campaign, a driver was booked after testing positive for amphetamine during a traffic checking operation in Nagpur.
Driver Found Driving Suspiciously Near Hotel Pride Square
According to police officials, the incident took place on May 10, 2026, at around 8:20 PM near Hotel Pride Square in the Sonegaon area during routine traffic inspections conducted by the traffic branch.
Traffic police personnel noticed a driver operating a vehicle in a suspicious and dangerous manner on a public road. The vehicle was immediately stopped for questioning and verification.
Drug Test Confirms Presence of Amphetamine
During preliminary inquiry, officials conducted an on-the-spot drug screening using a Drug Testing Analyzer machine. The test reportedly returned positive for AMP (Amphetamine), indicating suspected consumption of narcotic substances.
Following the positive result, police registered a case against the motorist at Sonegaon Police Station under:
- Section 27 of the NDPS Act
- Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act
The case has been registered as Crime No. 90/2026.
Detailed Medical Examination Conducted
Police stated that the accused driver has undergone a detailed medical examination, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway by Sonegaon Police.

Nagpur Police have appealed to citizens not to drive under the influence of drugs, narcotic substances, or intoxicating medicines, warning that strict legal action will be taken against offenders.
Officials emphasized that the special enforcement campaign against drugged driving will continue across the city to ensure road safety and prevent accidents caused by impaired driving.
