Nagpur: A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Dhanori village, Pauni tehsil, after an injured tiger was found lying helplessly in the main Right Bank Canal (RBC) of the Gosikhurd Dam, part of the Indira Sagar Project, on Tuesday morning.
The tiger was first spotted between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. along the Pauni–Sawarla road, where the canal runs parallel. Locals noticed the big cat struggling to move and immediately alerted the Forest Department.
A swift response team comprising forest officials, veterinary experts, and frontline staff reached the spot and monitored the tiger’s condition for several hours. The area was cordoned off to ensure safety and prevent any human-wildlife conflict during the operation.
After assessing the animal’s health, the team successfully tranquilised and rescued the injured tiger from the canal bed. It has now been shifted to the Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur for advanced treatment and medical care.
Forest officials are evaluating the nature of the injury and the tiger’s overall condition. The cause of the injury remains unknown, and further updates are expected once veterinary reports are available.
The incident highlights rising wildlife movement around the Gosikhurd Dam region, where dispersing tigers often encounter human-dominated landscapes.
