₹1.02 Crore Worth MD Drug Seized ahead of Valentine’s Day in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Crime Branch seized Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MD) powder worth over ₹1 crore and arrested a 51-year-old man in the Ganeshpeth police limits late on Friday night.


Acting on specific intelligence, officials of the Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Squad were patrolling under the jurisdiction of Ganeshpeth Police Station at around 11.10 pm on February 13, 2026. The team received credible information that a person was selling MD near Abhyankar Bhavan on Subhash Road, Rajaram Devi Chowk.


Based on the tip-off, police laid a trap at the specified location and detained a suspect who had arrived on a moped. Upon interrogation, he identified himself as Sanjay Ramprasad Gangwani (51), a resident of Ganeshpeth, Nagpur.


During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, officers recovered 512 grams of MD powder from the dickey of the moped. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately ₹1,02,40,000 in the illegal market.



Accused Claims Indore Link in Drug Supply Chain



During questioning, the accused revealed that the consignment had been sent for distribution by a wanted accomplice based in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, through a private travel agency courier service.


Apart from the MD powder, police seized three mobile phones, a helmet, and ₹41,000 in cash from his possession. The total value of the seized property stands at ₹1,03,82,000.


Police officials stated that the accused was found in possession of the contraband with the intention of selling it for financial gain.



NDPS Case Registered, Further Probe Underway



A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Ganeshpeth Police Station. He has been arrested and handed over to Ganeshpeth police along with the seized material.


Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused from Indore, while further investigation into the supply network is in progress.



Senior Officials Supervised Operation



The operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil.


The action was executed by Police Inspector Gajanan Gulhane and his team from the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Crime Branch.
