Nagpur: Panic gripped Pagalkhana Square on Monday afternoon after a man in military-style clothing jumped from the Sadar-Mankapur flyover around 1:30 pm. Initial speculation suggested that he may have fallen due to an accident, but a preliminary probe revealed that the man had deliberately leapt to end his life.

The deceased has been identified as Yashwant Ramesh Sahu (31), a resident of Jaripatka and a homeguard with Maharashtra Ex-Servicemen Corporation Ltd. (MESCO). He was married.

According to Mankapur Police Inspector Harish Kalsekar, “Around 1:30 pm, Sahu left for work from Jaripatka. Upon reaching the flyover, he stopped near Pagalkhana Square, parked his motorcycle on the side, removed his helmet, and jumped off.”

Sahu sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case of accidental death has been registered. Police are investigating the motive behind the extreme step.
