Nagpur: The Bombay High Court has designated 28 lawyers, including four from Nagpur, as senior advocates effective from July 18, 2024. The newly designated senior advocates from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court are Mohan Sudame, Firdos Mirza, Akshay Naik, and government pleader Devendra Chauhan.

This designation marks the first time in five years that the Bombay High Court has designated four lawyers as senior advocates simultaneously. Previously, senior advocates such as S.K. Mishra, Anil Mardikar, C.S. Kaptan, Anand Jaiswal, and R.L. Khapre were designated.

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court boasts a distinguished group of senior advocates, including former advocate generals Shrihari Aney and Sunil Manohar, as well as senior advocates Subodh Dharmadhikari, C.S. Kaptan, Anil Mardikar, Anand Jaiswal, S.K. Mishra, R.L. Khapre, Avinash Gupta, and M.G. Bhangde. Notably, V.R. Manohar, Avinash Gorde, and Kumkum Sirpurkar have announced their retirement.

The newly designated senior advocates represent a mix of two generations. Akshay Naik, the son of former Justice Vasanti Naik, and Devendra Chauhan symbolize the new generation, while Mohan Sudame and Firdos Mirza bring over 25 years of experience to the role.

Interestingly, eight applications were submitted from the Nagpur Bench for the designation of senior advocate, but only four were approved by the Bombay High Court.
