Nagpur: The newly inaugurated Kamptee Road flyover, celebrated for providing motorists with a smooth and pothole-free commute, is facing criticism due to rising concerns over public drinking and littering on the bridge.
The flyover, which opened to vehicular traffic on October 5, 2024, after a seven-year wait, initially brought relief to commuters traveling between LIC Square and Pili Nadi. However, regular users of the bridge are now raising alarms over the increasing instances of people consuming alcohol on the flyover and leaving behind beer bottles.
Speaking to Nagpur News, Prajwal Watkar, a working professional who regularly commutes on the flyover, highlighted the issue.
“Every morning, I find beer bottles on the flyover while traveling to my office. This is an unsafe act; the bottles can fall off the bridge and cause injuries to passersby below. Authorities need to take serious note of this and act promptly,” informed Prajwal Watkar.
The drinking menace not only poses safety risks but also tarnishes the reputation of a vital infrastructure project meant to ease connectivity. Commuters have urged local authorities to implement stricter surveillance and take action to curb such activities.
Nagpur Police and municipal authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
