Nagpur: Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday directed officials to conduct immediate assessments of damage caused by two days of heavy rainfall in the region.
Several low-lying areas were inundated, leading to significant losses for farmers. Fadnavis reviewed the situation with the Divisional Commissioner and instructed that urgent measures be taken to evaluate the damage.
The districts of Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Bhandara were particularly affected, with rivers such as Wainganga and Bawanthadi overflowing. In Gondia district, two individuals lost their lives due to the flooding.
Authorities relocated 1,022 residents from these three districts to safer locations. A total of 47 routes were blocked by floodwaters, with 35 of these disruptions reported in Gondia alone. However, the administration noted that the water levels have begun to recede as the intensity of the rainfall decreases.
To handle any emergency situation, two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and three local disaster management teams have been kept on high alert. Additionally, disaster management units in Gadchiroli, Bhamragad, and Sironcha are also prepared to respond as needed.
Fadnavis assured that all necessary precautions and actions are being taken by the administration to mitigate the impact of the floods.
