Nagpur: A 37-year-old decorator was allegedly threatened at knifepoint for extortion near Lal Darwaja Square in Pachpaoli on Thursday night. Acting swiftly, Pachpaoli Police arrested the accused identified as Shahid Ali alias Heman Locha (25), a resident of Bengali Panja, Lendi Talao.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on November 20, when complainant Imran Razzak Virani, a resident of Tandapeth, was returning home on his two-wheeler (MH 49 CA 4310). While he halted at Akash Pan Thela to take kharra, the accused allegedly approached him, pulled out a knife-like weapon, pressed it against his abdomen and demanded money, claiming that Virani would have to pay him if he wished to continue his decoration work. The accused also abused and threatened him before fleeing.
Based on the complaint, PSI Dhopte registered offences under Sections 308(3), 351(2), 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a manhunt. The accused was traced and arrested with the help of the investigation team. Further probe is underway.
