Nagpur: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nimit Goyal, serving in the Nagpur Crime Branch, has resigned from the police service, causing a significant stir among the state police officials. Goyal, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2014 batch, made the decision to step down, citing personal reasons.

Originally from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Goyal hails from a prominent entrepreneurial family. His wife, Aanchal Goyal, is currently serving as an Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation. Throughout his career, Goyal has held key positions, including Additional Superintendent in Sindhudurg, Commandant of SRPF Group 4 in Mumbai, and Superintendent of Aurangabad. Notably, his tenure as Superintendent of Aurangabad was cut short due to a transfer before its completion.

In February, Goyal was appointed as DCP in the city police force and was later assigned to the Crime Branch, owing to his seniority in the IPS cadre. According to sources, he had submitted his resignation around one and a half months ago, which has since been forwarded to the state government. As of now, no decision has been made by the government regarding his resignation.

This is not the first time Goyal has tendered his resignation. In 2022, he also resigned but later withdrew it for undisclosed reasons. His recent resignation comes amidst a period of IPS officer transfers, creating unease among young police officers. It is noteworthy that this is the first instance of an IPS officer posted in the city police resigning from the service.
