Nagpur: Another tragic accident has occurred on the Samruddhi Expressway, continuing a series of fatal incidents on the highway. Early, October 17, Thursday morning, at around 6:00 AM, a high-speed car crashed into the rear of a truck near Location 182 of the expressway, resulting in the immediate death of the car driver.
The deceased has been identified as Baliram Gyanba Pise, 24, a resident of Shivani (Pise), Lonar Taluka, Buldhana District. He was driving from Nagpur towards Lonar in a vehicle bearing registration number MH 43 BU 0361. According to reports, Pise lost control of his speeding car, which collided violently with a truck ahead. The impact was so intense that local villagers from Walai, who heard the loud crash, rushed to the scene.
Emergency services were alerted, and Ramesh Deshmukh from the Shri Guru Mandir Ambulance Service contacted Pilot Vidhata Chavan and Dr. Ganesh from Samruddhi Expressway Location 108 for immediate assistance. Deepak Sonone, a volunteer from Sarvadharma Emergency Services, arrived at the spot with an ambulance, but the accident was severe, with the car completely crushed under the truck.
Pise’s body was trapped in the mangled car and had to be extricated with great effort by the Samruddhi Expressway's fire department. The Maharashtra Security Guards and the Special Service Police (SSP) were also present at the scene. The accident caused a disruption in traffic flow on the expressway, which was later restored after clearing the wrecked vehicles.
The Samruddhi Expressway, officially known as the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, was built using advanced technology to facilitate faster travel across the state. However, the expressway has been mired in controversy due to the alarming number of accidents. Since its inauguration, there have been over 17,000 accidents, resulting in hundreds of deaths and numerous injuries. Despite various safety measures being implemented, the frequency of accidents remains high, raising concerns about the effectiveness of these preventive efforts.
