Nagpur: An ambulance driver has been booked for causing a fatal accident in the Dhantoli area after a pedestrian was struck and killed near Hardev Hotel on Cement Road.
The incident occurred between 4:15 am and 4:25 am on June 3, when the deceased, Maroti Narayanrao Barve (32), a resident of Banosa, Daryapur, Amravati, was found lying unconscious near Kumbar Toli in the jurisdiction of Dhantoli Police Station. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Initial investigations recorded the case as an accidental death. However, further inquiry revealed that Barve was walking on the road when a speeding and negligently driven white Maruti Omni ambulance (registration no. MP 28 DB 0573) hit him, leading to fatal injuries.
Based on the findings, Dhantoli Police have now registered a case against the ambulance driver under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The investigation is ongoing.
