Nagpur: A woman was killed and her daughter injured after they were allegedly hit by a speeding e-rickshaw carrying goods in a hit-and-run incident in the Kapil Nagar area of Nagpur.
According to Kapil Nagar Police, the accident took place at around 7.30 pm on July 20, 2026, near Sharda Company at Automotive Chowk.
The complaint was lodged by Ankush Dipak Gaikwad (39), who stated that his mother, Rekha Gaikwad, and sister, Mamta Gaikwad, were walking home when an unidentified driver of a goods e-rickshaw bearing registration number MH-32-AJ-4520 allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, hitting both women from behind.
After the collision, the driver allegedly fled the spot without offering any assistance.
Rekha Gaikwad suffered grievous injuries to her head, hands, legs and abdomen. Passers-by rushed her to Mayo Hospital. She breathed her last on August 5 during treatment. Mamta Gaikwad also sustained injuries in the accident was discharged after treatment.
Based on Ankush Gaikwad’s complaint, Kapil Nagar Police have registered a case against the unidentified e-rickshaw driver under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 134, 177 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police are investigating the case and are working to trace the unidentified driver using the vehicle’s registration number and other available evidence.
