Nagpur: A theft was reported at a Hanuman temple in the Lalganj Gujri area under the Shantinagar Police Station limits, where an unidentified thief allegedly stole a silver crown and a brass bell worth Rs 25,000.
According to police, the complainant, Yash Anil Kirdak (24), a resident near Hanuman Temple, Lalganj Gujri, stated that the theft took place between 7 pm and 10.15 pm on August 1. The accused allegedly took advantage of the absence of public attention and stole a 150-gram silver crown adorning the idol of Goddess Durga, valued at Rs 23,000, along with a 2-kg brass bell worth Rs 2,000.
The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Rs 25,000.
Based on the complaint, Shantinagar Police have registered a case against an unknown accusedunder Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for theft. The offence was registered in the early hours of August 2, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprit.
Police are examining the crime scene and are expected to scrutinise CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the accused. No arrests have been made so far. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information related to the theft to contact Shantinagar Police.
