Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the MIDC Police have arrested a notorious criminal serving a life sentence who had been absconding while on parole, along with his associates, for allegedly carrying out an armed robbery and extortion at a bar on Sangam Road.
The incident occurred on March 13, 2026, at Lenzed Restaurant and Bar under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police Station Nagpur. The prime accused, Ajit Ramesh Satpute (37), a resident of Dattawadi, Nagpur, allegedly stormed into the establishment along with six accomplices. Police said Satpute threatened the bar manager at gunpoint and also demanded ransom from the bar owner over the phone.
The accused allegedly decamped with approximately Rs 20,000 in cash from the counter and several expensive foreign liquor bottles displayed at the premises. Based on the complaint lodged by the bar management, a case (Crime No. 167/2026) was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Acting swiftly on the seriousness of the offence, police teams were formed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) and Assistant Commissioner of Police, MIDC Division. Based on confidential inputs, one team conducted a raid at a house in Vaibhav Nagar, Wanadongri, where four accused were apprehended.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajit Ramesh Satpute (37), Pritam alias “Maggi” Ram Borkute (22), Harshal Pramod Uprikar (19), and Badal Ratnakar Girsawale (21). Two more accused — Rakesh Jhakanlal Patle (37) and Akhilesh Ramji Pandey (43) — were later taken into custody from their respective residences. Additionally, a minor in conflict with law was detained and subsequently handed over to his parents.
During the operation, police seized a foreign-made pistol with magazine valued at Rs 25,000, two live cartridges worth Rs 2,000, an iron knife, a folding steel rod, a white Swift car (MH-40-CQ-6296) valued at Rs 4 lakh, and foreign liquor bottles collectively worth Rs 50,000. The total value of seized property runs into several lakhs.
Police records reveal that Satpute has multiple serious offences registered against him across various police stations in Nagpur city. He had been convicted in one case and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, he had been absconding for a considerable period after being released on parole and had repeatedly evaded arrest until this operation.
The arrest operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP S Rushikesh Reddy (Zone 1) and ACP Satish Gurav (MIDC Division), led by Senior Police Inspector Gokul Mahajan of MIDC Police Station, along with a dedicated investigation team.
