Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) facilitated the immersion of 2,008 Ganesh idols on the first and one-and-a-half day of the ongoing Ganeshotsav 2025, with arrangements made for eco-friendly visarjan at artificial ponds across different zones of the city.
According to civic data, a total of 34 artificial ponds were set up at 15 different locations for idol immersion. Of the idols immersed, 1,890 were made of clay (shadu mati) while 118 were Plaster of Paris (POP) idols.
A zone-wise breakup shows:
- Zone 1 (Laxminagar): 785 idols immersed, supported by 10 artificial ponds.
- Zone 2 (Dharampeth): 863 idols immersed, with the highest number of 16 artificial ponds.
- Zone 3 (Hanumannagar): Only 7 idols immersed across 3 ponds.
- Zone 4 (Dhantoli): 69 idols immersed at 2 artificial ponds.
- Zone 5 (Nehru Nagar): 284 idols immersed using 2 ponds.
- Zone 7 (Satranjipura): No immersions were reported.
NMC officials said the artificial ponds were created to encourage eco-friendly immersion practices and reduce pollution in natural water bodies like lakes and rivers. With larger visarjan days yet to come, civic authorities expect the number of immersions to rise significantly in the coming week.
