Nagpur: A fatal accident on New Year’s Eve claimed the life of a 16-year-old bike rider and left another injured after a speeding Maxi Auto, allegedly driven by a drunk driver, collided with their motorcycle near Itwari Station Road.

The incident occurred on December 31, 2024, around 8:45 pm. Kartik Vilas Marode (16), a resident of Shantinagar, was riding a Splendor motorcycle (MH 49 BE 3650) with his friend, Pranay Mukesh Dolas (19), seated pillion. While on their way to Sunil Hotel in Lakadganj, their motorcycle was struck head-on by a Maxi Auto (MH 49 AR 6556) traveling at high speed.

The auto driver, reportedly intoxicated, fled the scene after the collision. Both victims suffered severe injuries and were rushed to New Era Hospital by bystanders. Doctors declared Kartik dead during treatment, while Pranay is undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital.

Following Pranay’s complaint, Shantinagar police registered a case against the driver under Sections 105, 125(a), and 281 of the BNS. Investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the accused.
