Nagpur: Panic gripped a residential locality in KT Nagar, Surendragarh area of Nagpur after a snake was spotted hiding inside a household air cooler late at night. The reptile, later identified as an Indian Trinket Snake—locally known in Hindi as “Bansundari”—was safely rescued by noted wildlife rescuer Shubham G.R.
Snake Spotted Inside Cooler at Night
The incident occurred at the residence of the Shukla family, who noticed the snake slithering into their cooler in the darkness. The sudden sight of the reptile left family members terrified, triggering alarm in the neighbourhood. Within minutes, residents gathered outside the house as fear spread across the locality.
Swift Rescue Operation
Upon receiving information about the incident, well-known Nagpur-based wildlife rescuer Shubham G.R. rushed to the spot. Displaying courage and expertise, he carefully extracted the snake from inside the cooler without causing harm to the reptile or endangering residents.
The snake was identified as the Indian Trinket Snake (Coelognathus helena), a non-venomous species commonly found in parts of India. In Hindi, it is often referred to as the “Bansundari” or “Bansundari Taskar” snake.
Released Safely into the Wild
After the rescue, the snake was safely released into its natural habitat away from human habitation. Wildlife experts state that such snakes often enter residential areas in search of food or shelter, especially during seasonal changes.
Residents expressed relief following the successful rescue and appreciated the timely intervention. Authorities and wildlife volunteers have urged citizens not to panic in such situations and to immediately contact trained rescuers instead of attempting to handle reptiles on their own.
