Nagpur: Traffic Police led by DCP Lohit Matani have launched a special enforcement drive across the city against illegally placed scrap materials, abandoned old vehicles, and vehicles parked in no-parking zones, officials said in a press note issued on Tuesday.
The campaign, which began on May 6, 2026, is aimed at removing obstacles causing disruptions in the city’s traffic movement. Under the special operation, traffic police teams are taking action against scrap materials dumped on footpaths and roadside areas, as well as old and inactive vehicles occupying public roads for long periods.
According to the police department, unauthorized encroachments on footpaths and roadsides have been creating major inconvenience for pedestrians and motorists, besides affecting the smooth flow of traffic in several parts of the city. The drive is being conducted throughout Nagpur to improve road safety and traffic management.
During the ongoing operation, traffic police personnel have removed large quantities of scrap materials blocking pedestrian pathways and cleared inactive vehicles parked along roadsides for extended durations. Officials stated that the action has helped create safer and obstruction-free routes for commuters and pedestrians, while also improving overall traffic movement.
The department has also issued a stern warning to scrap dealers and vehicle owners against illegally occupying public roads or footpaths in the future. Authorities said strict legal action would be initiated against violators if such encroachments continue.
Appealing to citizens for cooperation, the traffic police urged residents to follow traffic regulations and avoid any activity that obstructs public spaces or hampers road safety. Officials added that the special enforcement campaign will continue in the coming days as part of efforts to maintain smooth and secure traffic conditions across the city.
