Nagpur Police Crack Down on Drug Trade: 60-Year-Old Woman Arrested With 648 Grams of Ganja in Kotwali

Nagpur Police intensified its anti-drug campaign under “Operation Thunder – Let Us Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society,” leading to the arrest of a 60-year-old woman allegedly found possessing ganja for sale in the Kotwali area of Nagpur.


The operation is being conducted under the concept initiated by Police Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singal to take strict action against drug peddlers, illegal possession of narcotics, and drug consumers.


According to police, on May 7, 2026, between 12.30 pm and 2.50 pm, officers from the Kotwali Police investigation team were patrolling the area in search of criminals when they noticed an elderly woman behaving suspiciously at Udhaji Nagar, Circle No. 6, Mahal. Police also spotted suspicious packets placed on a chair beside her.


As the police team approached, the woman allegedly attempted to flee from the spot, but was immediately detained. During questioning, she identified herself as Chandbano Mohammad Hatam (60), a resident of Udhaji Nagar, Mahal.


A search of the plastic packets allegedly recovered from her possession led to the seizure of 648 grams of ganja. Police also recovered cash worth Rs 580. The total value of the seized material is estimated at Rs 12,580.


Investigators stated that the accused woman was allegedly possessing the narcotic substance for illegal sale and personal financial gain. A case has been registered against her at Kotwali Police Station under Sections 8(c), 20(b), and 11A of the NDPS Act. She has been arrested and further investigation is underway.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madne, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anita More, and Senior Police Inspector Ritesh Aher. The action team included PSI Vilas Gore, Khushal Rathod, API Shinde, Police Constable Prasanna Dapurkar, and other staff members.
