Nagpur: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented the state budget for 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly, while Minister of State for Finance Adv. Ashish Jaiswal tabled it in the Legislative Council in Mumbai on Monday, March 10. The budget includes several key provisions aimed at enhancing infrastructure and development in Nagpur district.
Key Announcements for Nagpur:
• Urban Haat Centre for Weavers:
To promote handloom weavers and provide them with better facilities, an Urban Haat Centrewill be established in Nagpur.
• Nagpur Metro Expansion:
In a bid to provide eco-friendly, sustainable, uninterrupted, and air-conditioned transport services, metro routes covering a total of 143.57 km have been developed in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune. Approximately 10 lakh passengers benefit from these metro services daily. In Nagpur, the first phase of the 40 km metro stretch is now complete, while the second phase — spanning 43.80 km and costing ₹6,708 crore — is progressing rapidly.
• Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Modernization:
The airport in Nagpur is undergoing privatized upgradation and modernization, which will significantly boost both passenger capacity and cargo handling. This initiative is expected to drive comprehensive economic growth across the Vidarbha region.
• Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project:
The ambitious Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project has received in-principle approval. With an estimated cost of ₹88,574 crore, this project is set to benefit six districts — Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, and Buldhana — covering an irrigation area of 3.71 lakh hectares. Detailed surveys and investigations for the project are currently underway.
• New Court Establishments:
As part of strengthening the state’s judicial infrastructure, 18 new courts will be established across Maharashtra. Among them, Katol in Nagpur district has been included, ensuring improved legal services in the region.
These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance Nagpur’s infrastructure, transport connectivity, and economic growth in the coming years.
